A pendulum object composed of a solid steel plate swings back and forth between the poles of an electromagnet with the power switched off. When the magnet is switched on, the pendulum motion of the object comes to an almost immediate halt. If the plate contains slots more time elapses before the plate stops moving, i.e. the braking effect is severely reduced. The equipment set consists of a pendulum rod and four aluminum pendulum plates with various shapes: rectangle, rectangle with slits, circular disk, ring and ring with slits.
